Why do you lose hair?

Hair loss is common in women and men, either way, it’s emotionally draining. There are plenty of reasons for losing hair. The process can be simple and temporary with an issue such as vitamin deficiency or more complicated, like an underlying health condition. Both men and women can suffer from hormone imbalances that cause hair loss or hair thinning. A simple evaluation at Beverly Hills Hair Restoration can give you an indefinite answer as to why you’re losing hair. Treatments can vary and depend on why you’re suffering from hair loss.

Female pattern baldness is called androgenic or androgenetic alopecia. This is commonly known as the female version of male pattern baldness. Often times women who come from a family of women who have female pattern baldness tend to have this hair they can experience loss of hair, as well. Women tend to have a thinning part in between their hairline vs. males who tend to have receding hairlines or crown balding. Women can use Rogaine to help maintain and/or regrow their hair. Rogaine is an over the counter drug used for hair loss, it can be purchased at your local drug store.

Male pattern baldness can be caused by many factors such as hormones and genetics. Roughly, around 50% of men over 50 will be affected by male pattern baldness. Their hormones are believed to affect the hair follicles through a hormone called DHT. Dihydrotestosterone causes the hair follicle shrink. When the hair grows back it can be thinner and tends to take longer to grow back. The follicles will get to a point where they won’t produce hair anymore.
