What is Alopecia Areata?

Alopecia Areata is a disease where partial or complete hair loss occurs on the head, face, or body. Anyone, both males and females, can experience hair loss. This usually develops gradually, but there are many causes. It can be hereditary, due to physical or emotional stress, medications, and even from hair styles that put too much tension on hair follicles. Whichever the reason may be, the point is that it is not something to be embarrassed about.

The first step is to figure out the underlying reason for the hair loss. Sometimes the hair loss can be short-term due to other things such as stress, and can be treated with other remedies. Once the hair loss has been determined to be more than a “short-term” hair loss, the next step is to schedule a consultation with a hair surgeon. Dr. Kahen offers his consultations free of charge. During the consultation the Doctor can learn more important details about the patient that will allow him to establish the diagnosis, make his suggestion and provide a reasonable expectation for the results.

What procedure is best for me?

If you do decide to receive a hair transplant, here at Beverly Hills Hair Restoration, there are two different procedures the doctor can perform: Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) also known as Strip Harvesting Method and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE).

In FUT, a strip of skin is removed from the back of the scalp. The wound is then sutured back

together and the piece of scalp tissue is then cut into small pieces of tissue called grafts which are then transplanted back in to the thinning area of the patient’s head. This method does leave a linear scar on the back of the head. The visibility of the scar is dependent on the technique of the Doctor – Our clinic ensures the smallest visible scar possible. This procedure would be best recommended when you have longer hair so the scar won’t be visible at all.

FUE is a method of extracting single follicular units, one at a time, from the donor site by using a tiny punch excision. A punch used to extract single follicular units is typically 1mm diameter or less. This technique can be used for scalp transplants as well as body hair transplants, such as the beard. FUE results to no linear scars, quick results and rapid healing, and is meant for patients that need a smaller number of grafts and want to wear their hair short.

A simple personal call or email can start your road to recovery – so what are you waiting for? At Beverly Hills Hair Restoration, the consultation is done by the doctor himself, who will personally answer all your questions. Remember, choosing the right hair transplant surgeon and center can be the most important decision you will make in your hair loss treatment. Each physician has his own standards in this delicate procedure, as this will depend on his artistic touch and knowledge of technique.
