The Huffington Post posted an article the other day stating that Vegetarians Live Longer. And we couldn’t help but wonder — does a vegetarian or vegan diet influence the causes of hair loss? What can you do to stay healthy and prevent hair loss with food.
With a vegan or vegetarian diet, you have to be super careful that you get all the proper nutrients, such as a sufficient amount of protein, iron, amino acids and certain vitamins like B Vitamins that are obtained from meat, poultry, fish, etc. And sometimes, vegans and vegetarians can experience iron-related hair loss. Also, a severe deficiency in protein can cause hair thinning or hair loss, since, basically, you are malnourished. An article by Livestrong.com discussing the link between hair loss and a vegan or vegetarian diet recommends eating a variety of foods to make sure you are getting the proper amount of nutrients in your body to prevent hair loss or hair thinning. So, it’s not so much that a vegan or vegetarian is going to have hair loss, necessarily — but that someone with nutrient deficiencies is at risk for hair loss.
If you think your hair loss is due to something else besides diet, you should consult with your doctor about either hair prevention or hair restoration in Los Angeles.
