Earlier this year the FDA approved an exciting new hair transplant technology that is going to revolutionize the way hair transplant surgery is currently being performed.  The use of robotics is widely used in many fields of medicine especially in surgical procedures.

The Restoration Robotics ARTAS System is a state-of-the-art, computer assisted, interactive system that facilitates harvesting of hair follicles during follicular hair transplant procedures.   Incorporating many features including special imaging technologies, an image-guided robotic arm, a user friendly interface and many other technical features that aid in the identification and harvest of individual follicular units to be implemented in the hair transplant technique process.

The ARTAS System has an interactive image-guided robotic system that has the ability to remove hair grafts one at a time and possesses the ability to implant them as well.   Adding value to this amazing invention is the ability to design a computerized hairline for the patient.  When in action, as the patient moves, ability to recalculate the angle as each follicular unit is located as well as the location and orientation of all hair on the surface of the scalp, are just a few of the technical tools this system offers for hair transplant surgery.

With the position and location feature the image system guides the robotic arm to the grafts one at a time.  The follicular units are then extracted from the scalp and stored in a cool vial where it’s kept moist until it’s time.
