What is a hair graft?

Dec 16 2017

A graft is the generic term used for any piece of hair-bearing tissue that is extracted from the scalp. When performing an FUE or FUT you’ll have an estimated number of hair grafts extracted. Each graft can have 1-4 hair follicles. The hair grafts are extracted from a donor area in the back of the head. This area is genetically programmed to grow hair for life. This ensures your hair transplantation won’t fall out, you’ll have lasting results.

Generally, hair restoration surgeons charge by the graft therefore, your hair transplant cost is determined by how many grafts you’ll need to fulfill your hair goals. In most cases, the higher the number of follicles can result in a lower “per-follicle” cost. Just because you opted for 700 hair grafts doesn’t mean your price will double if you choose to go with 1400 hair grafts. The price per graft is not set in stone since every patient’s hair loss restoration is different.

The two main ways we harvest hair grafts are: strip excision harvesting, and follicular

unit extraction. The course of the hair loss treatment depends on the patient’s hair goals. Dr. Kahen is the best hair transplant doctor and he'll be sure to place the hair grafts in ideal areas that'll result in the best hair density.
